The children’s clinic has a warm and comfortable quality that children  feel at home in. With plenty of books, wooden toys, soft toys and ‘things’ of interest to distract and entertain babies, wobblers, toddlers and bigger kids during their treatment. Mum, dad, carers, aunties and grannies (and sometimes siblings) are welcome to be close to their child  to reassure and maintain close contact during the treatment. You also have an important job as entertainer of your child, by playing, reading to and distracting their attention so that Gideon or Paula can give the best possible treatment.

Gideon has specialised in the treatment of children for 25 years and regularly travels internationally to improve his skills and stay up to date with latest best practice and reasearch. There is no requirement, and it is hardly fair to expect it of them, for children to lie perfectly still during their treatment. Even the most compulsive movers and shakers amongst the kids like to keep my hands in contact with their head or some other part of their body whilst they move around the room.

If the treatment is acupuncture for babies and children, then the needles are usually only inserted for a few seconds to 1 minute. Most of the time they have no idea the needles are in at all. The needles are kept in for several minutes for teenagers, they are comfortable when inserted, and the teens are encouraged to communicate how they are feeling. The ‘hands-on’ part of the treatment with Cranial Osteopathy and Paediatric Osteopathy generally lasts between 20-30 minutes.

 Bringing food to the treatment

Babies can be breast or bottle fed during the treatment ( it is often helpful diagnostically to observe), and if you are bringing snacks, then please bring things that won’t be crumbly and sticky. Raisins and rice-cakes work well, for example.

If you have any questions or concerns about  your child’s treatment; or whether acupuncture, osteopathy, cranial osteopathy or homeopathy may be able to support your child’s health and healing  process, do get in touch with us.
